A resilient country is what we are and also we desire more.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon the world with provocations, almost all countries had to shut down their economies to halt the spread of the virus and our country is one of those countries who have taken strict measures by implementing the Enhanced Community Quarantine on March 15, 2020. It’s been a year and almost 7 months since we got stuck within our homes. The effects of COVID-19 can be felt all around us‒daily news clamoring with statistics, families worried about going ravenous because a lot of people lose their jobs and struggling to find a new one, citizens anxious to go back to what it used to be, and a country that is struggling to keep its economy buoyant. As with major world events, this is a big turning point in human history. When the upcoming generations look back, they will judge us by how we fared in fighting this pandemic.
We are feeling the repercussions of COVID-19. Experts said that it will take at least a year before we see our economy's recovery back to pre-COVID levels and our President also promised that before Christmas (2020) we will be COVID FREE but it's almost 2 years and we're still suffering because of corona virus. To move beyond the current crisis and to prophylactic the hopes and dreams of the Filipino people, we must revisit our country’s ability to self-sustain by looking internally. We need to revisit our financial value chains, reassess where gaps are, and make deliberate investments accordingly. Health Living, Knowledge, Education, Sustainable electrification, and Support local is my thoughts that what we need the most to make a more resilient country.
Hope springs ever eternal. If there’s one quality that marks the Filipino people, it is resiliency. We’d been colonized, had to rebuild our cities, suffered under terrorism and dictatorship, fended off economic recessions, and fled from our homes in the face of calamities. With all that we’ve been through, do we have to give up now? Now, more than ever, we must instantiate the bayanihan spirit and unite as one people. In the midst of COVID-19, we must all look forward, continue fighting, and never give up!
